About Jennifer Pickering Auchter
As Director of the New Mexico Reforestation Center (NMRC), I\'m building the infrastructure New Mexico needs to restore its forests at scale. because healthy forests are water infrastructure, climate resilience, and rural economic opportunity all at once!NMRC is a $47.6 million multi-institutional initiative, with an additional $17.65 million in state General Obligation bonds pending New Mexico voter approval in November 2026, working to scale statewide seedling production from to 5 million annually by 2030, closing a 175-year backlog of burned acres left by catastrophic wildfires like Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon. The work spans supply chain development, workforce training, applied research, and deep stakeholder collaboration across tribal nations, federal agencies, state government, and rural communities.I bring a decade of applied research and project leadership across industry, government, and academia, with expertise in water resources, Earth and environmental sciences, and regenerative landscape systems. My career began with five years in energy R&D as a sedimentology and stratigraphy specialist, followed by work on watershed restoration, drainage remediation, and landscape-scale environmental problem solving. always at the intersection of science, funding strategy, and real-world implementation.I\'m drawn to complex, cross-sector challenges where applied science and strong partnerships affect positive change.
