About Jenayah Dunn
As a pre-medical student at NYU, I spend my time honing my research skills and advocating for underrepresented communities in medicine. I am an undergraduate researcher specializing in the chemistry of RNA, and how long noncoding RNAs undergo alternative splicing. In my current role as an Undergraduate Research Assistant within NYU\'s Chemistry Department, I have gained hands-on experience with DNA sequencing, RNA transcription techniques and protein expression to analyze RNA structures and its interaction with a protein of interest in order to further understand lncRNA splicing. My research is supported by the Dean’s Undergraduate Research Fund and the Collegiate Research Initiative, each of which have allowed me to delve deeper into the role of spliceosomal proteins in alternative splicing.Previously, I utilized R programming to analyze splicing patterns of lncRNAs in cancer cell lines, aiming to uncover potential therapeutic targets. Through my involvement with NYU\'s Actually It\'s Doc as a Committee Chair and Mentor, I encourage and support women of color in health sciences, creating networks and organizing events with healthcare professionals to inspire future leaders in medicine.Let’s connect to explore the possibilities in scientific research, health advocacy, and chemical biology!
