WORK HISTORY
Owner @First Farm Inn
Petersburg, KY, US
After 25 years as a writer, photojournalist and public relations professional, I met and married Dana Kisor. Using Barbara Sher’s workbook “Wishcraft,” I had defined an ideal day in my life which included having a farm with horses, cooking, gardening and more. http://wishcraft.com/ After completing a comprehensive business plan, attending many small business seminars, and consulting several SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) advisors, we spent two years searching for properties in the Cincinnati region before finding the farm just off I-275. We were the first host farm for “Re-Run,” a Thoroughbred rescue started at Turfway Park, then quickly acquired several “give away” horses. B&B guests begged to ride. Knowing the importance of listening to your client base, I began allowing guests to ride, but saw a huge need for education to protect both horse and rider. So, I began learning how to teach. While I had begun riding bareback at 7 and trained my first horse at 12, I didn’t have formal instruction. During my “two-hour riding experience” you learn how horses think, the importance of your balance as it relates to the horse and how to communicate with them. First Farm Inn’s horses are happy, healthy and well cared for. They live in a herd, go out to play with their friends, have their hooves trimmed on a regular schedule, get annual vaccinations and see the dentist, chiropractor and natural healer regularly. They all have dressage training and are kind, sensitive, generally willing and pretty well mannered. So, if whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, you will have a great time at First Farm Inn.
