About Jeff Rifwald

I started developing websites when I was in elementary school; I was amazed that pressing \"view source\" could reveal the secrets needed to display an entire Pokédex. I spent the rest of my primary school years expanding my knowledge and eventually studied computer science to receive a master\'s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. I have gravitated towards the web since my early days, so naturally my master\'s thesis was focused around applying OpenGL concepts to WebGL. While studying at MTSU, I also worked for the university in multiple research, teaching, and development roles. After college, I joined a startup called Ambition (Y Combinator Winter 2014). I spent several years there, learning everything about building large web applications. The experiences I gained at Ambition are still the bedrock of my technical abilities. While there, I contributed to highly interactive web applications and eventually became the front end engineering lead. Shortly after departing Ambition, I honed my front end skills enough to become a front end engineering lead for Walmart Grocery. There I helped transition Walmart\'s Electrode platform to open source, scale Walmart Grocery\'s front end, and became a champion for writing high quality, performant code.Since then, I have spent the last few years leading front end teams in building user interfaces for AI/ML software. These days I am looking for challenging and high impact opportunities.
