About Jeffrey Barnes
Mr. Barnes specializes in electrical engineering issues, and has performed numerous investigations into fires caused or allegedly caused by electrical issues. His experience includes the evaluation of electrical products and their failure modes to determine whether they adhered to relevant safety standards, including those established by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). Mr. Barnes has also evaluated products and components for structural wiring compliance with the National Electric Code, NFPA 70 (NEC). Prior to joining 4x Forensic Engineering Laboratories, he worked with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for 22 years. His work at UL consisted of product certification testing, analysis and standards writing for electric residential, commercial and industrial products. His work at UL related to analyzing products for fire, electrocution, pinching and laceration hazards. Some examples of products he was exposed to in his testing and certifications role included: gas and electric cooking equipment, refrigeration equipment, gas & electric heaters, motorized gate systems, factory automation equipment, power supplies, industrial control panels, panel boards, dead front switchboards, medium and low voltage switchgear, as well as the components used within these products such as motors, transformers, switches, relays, contactors, starters, fuses & circuit breakers.Mr. Barnes is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of California.
