About Jeffrey Hinds
Licensed attorney in the State of Texas, former US Army Infantry Officer, Ranger, lifelong learner, and an accomplished leader both during combat and back home in the states, building and leading outstanding teams. Highly creative thinker with a strong background in project management, strategic design, mission execution, and exceeding organizational needs. Whether commanding an infantry company in Afghanistan or leading a negotiations team that overcame a three-decade diplomatic pause in company-level bilateral international military exercise between the United States and New Zealand, the ability to empathize with individuals without losing sight of the mission has led to success. When planning and executing joint service multinational training events for Army Central Command, I could never hope to have the required breadth of knowledge. All the Department of Defense facets and those of supporting agencies throughout the government each bring a depth of expertise. Add to that the complexities of integrating foreign militaries while conducting operations in simultaneous live and virtual areas across an ocean, and the task is more monumental than one person can balance. Managing a team with many outranking you takes an active curiosity, aggressive patience, and a steely kindness to reach the collective goal. I understand that a critical role for any leader is communication. Communication with those they work with and those they work for. I work with my colleagues and work for those who report to me and those whom I report. It is fear that limits most people when they approach speaking in public. I had to become comfortable presenting and briefing material early on, serving as a liaison officer for the International Training Detachment at Fort Benning (now Fort Moore), GA, to former President James E. Carter. In that role, it became clear that all people at any level want a professional to deliver trustworthy information promptly. Since then, I have briefed many General Officers and, on one occasion, the Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates on combat operations, staying true to the idea that I am there to help the decision-makers honestly, efficiently, and fearlessly.
