ABOUT JEFFREY S. REED

Jeff represents publicly traded corporations, small businesses, and high-net worth individuals in tax disputes, and advises on technical tax matters. Jeff is admitted to practice law in New York and Massachusetts and has considerable experience practicing before the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, the New York City Department of Finance, and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. Jeff has reported decisions before the United States Tax Court, the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board, the New York Supreme Court, the New York Division of Tax Appeals, the New York Tax Appeals Tribunal, the Indiana Tax Court, the New Jersey Tax Court, and has handled state tax administrative appeals around the country. With regard to federal income tax matters, Jeff has experience handling matters before the IRS Office of Appeals and at the United States Tax Court. He has particular experience in responding to IRS sham transaction assertions and in getting liens removed. Jeff has handled unclaimed property audits and advises on unclaimed property questions. Jeff has written extensively in the area of state and local taxation. His articles have been published in Tax Notes, the State and Local Tax Lawyer, BNA Tax Management’s Multistate Tax Report, Corporate Counsel, Inside New York Taxes, Private Wealth, the Journal of Taxation and Regulation of Financial Institutions, E-Commerce Times, and Legal Times. Jeff is on the State and Local Tax Executive Committees for both the American Bar Association and the New York City Bar Association.A regular lecturer on state and local tax matters, Jeff has spoken before organizations such as BNA CITE, Bloomberg BNA, the Broadband Tax Institute, the Council on State Taxation (COST), the Tax Executives Institute (TEI), the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, Strafford/BarBri, and New York University’s Summer Institute in State and Local Taxation.Jeff began his state and local tax career at the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, where he litigated cases before the Appellate Tax Board and negotiated settlements with taxpayers.Prior to joining the firm, he worked for the state tax group of a prominent international law firm.While attending college, Jeff studied abroad for a year at Oxford University in Oxford, England.
