ABOUT JEFFREY PARSONS

Dr. Jeffrey Parsons is a professor of counseling at Lindsey Wilson College. He is a licensed professional clinical counselor supervisor (LPCC-S) in Kentucky and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors. Dr. Parsons holds a bachelor\'s degree in Family Sciences from Brigham Young University, a master’s degree in Community Counseling from Portland State University, and a doctoral degree in Counselor Education from the University of Iowa. Dr. Parsons has been employed at Lindsey Wilson College for the past eighteen years, working extensively with students from the Appalachian mountains of eastern Kentucky through Lindsey’s extended campus programs. In addition to his experience teaching graduate courses in Counseling and Human Development and undergraduate courses in Human Services and Counseling with students from Appalachia, Dr. Parsons chaired the task force to develop the College’s first doctoral program and served as the program’s chair from 2014 to 2022.Dr. Parsons served in several other roles throughout Lindsey Wilson College, including, Director of Program Evaluation and Technology for the School of Professional Counseling, Director of Teaching and Technology Effectiveness for the Office of Academic Affairs, and Faculty Representative to the President’s Cabinet. Beyond Lindsey Wilson College, Dr. Parsons has served as the secretary for the Kentucky Association for Counselor Education & Supervision (KACES) and as an editor of the Kentucky Counseling Association Journal. Dr. Parsons also served as Board Chair for the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP) from 2015 to 2017. Dr. Parsons also served as vice-chair of the Kentucky Board of Licensed Professional Counselors, chair of the Product Development Committee for the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and a member of the CACREP External Training Committee.Dr. Parsons’s research interests include counselors’ professional identity, uses of instructional technology and pedagogy in counselor education and the role of spirituality in counseling. He has expertise in counseling theories, supervision, program accreditation, program evaluation, and instructional technology. Dr. Parsons and his wife Lisa (a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Registered Play Therapist) live in Berea, KY.
