About Jeffrey Privette
I oversee a portfolio of climate science and service activities conducted by staff who develop and provide authoritative climate data products, monitoring reports, and data services to government, industry, academia and the public. My primary career experience is in organizational, program and project management, with technical training and research in satellite remote sensing, field measurements and satellite product validation. I\'ve been with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) since 2006. From 1995- to 2006, I was a physical scientist with NASA\'s Goddard Space Flight Center. My major career activities have included leading NOAA\'s program for developing and providing climate data records, serving as NASA\'s Deputy Project Scientist for the Suomi-NPP satellite, managing field measurement campaigns, developing and validating satellite retrieval algorithms, and developing program management frameworks. I am the recent past-Chair of the Joint CEOS-CGMS Working Group on Climate, a coordinating group of the world\'s space agencies that assesses the adequacy of the current and future space and ground architectures for meeting the Earth observing requirements of the climate science and application communities.I have published more than 65 peer-reviewed journal articles and have earned various career awards, including the U.S. Department of Commerce\'s Gold Medal Award for initiating and leading NOAA\'s Climate Data Record Program. My personal mission is to help transform the climate science and service enterprise (NOAA, U.S. and international scales) to be more responsive to the practical needs of decision- and policy-makers at all levels of government, industry and the public. I believe in focusing not only on authoritative \"analysis-ready data\", but also on \"decision-ready data\" that is readily understood, accessible, useful and used by non-experts.
