About Jeffrey Lycan
Since my early days as an oncology nurse, I have found steadfast fulfillment in palliative care. For me, it’s about making patients and family members as comfortable as possible during a difficult time. While my role has evolved significantly from direct patient care to association and advocacy work, my core intention is always to serve people with serious chronic illnesses and end-of-life needs. I left the hospital environment to lead the statewide hospice and palliative care association that advocates on behalf of member hospices. During my time there I helped craft regulatory initiatives to support end-of-life care and decision-making, including Ohio\'s DNR protocols, advance directives and efforts to pass a bill focusing on Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (MOLST). This in-depth experience in policy and organizational leadership has prepared me for the combined work I do for three separate roles with non-profit, community-based hospice providers. I am President of the Hospice Alliance of Ohio, as well as the Vice-President of Mission Advocacy for both the Hospice of the Western Reserve and Ohio\'s Hospice. What unites my work is a shared focus on: • policy – advocating for terminally ill patients and their providers at the state and national level • regulation – monitoring complicated issues at the intersection of healthcare and legislation, and advising on behalf of our member organizations and providers • leadership – elevating standards of practice while fostering person-centered care across our communities • strategic planning – providing vision and guidance around communications and policy I take my responsibility as a nurse and advocate very seriously. I find spending time outdoors to be a great stress reliever—I’m an avid cyclist, and my wife and I love to get away for hikes. A little fresh air can be a wonderful way to clear our heads and remind us what’s important in life. Specialties: nonprofits | healthcare policy | legislative advocacy
