About Jeff Gabrione

Everybody has a story about the event that set them on their career path. Though I didn’t realize it at the time, mine occurred my first year in college when I took a class called “Political Economy”. Up to that point, I wanted to pursue a career in Physics or Engineering. But Political Economy showed me how fascinating Economics is and how it touches so many aspects of our lives. Within Economics, I ultimately gravitated to Investments.Two things stand out as to why Investments made sense for me. First, investing touches on many other disciplines (e.g, Mathematics, History, Psychology) and takes advantage of many different skills (e.g, analytical, communication, quantitative). I have too many interests to be pigeon-holed, and the multi-dimensional nature of investing allows me to explore. Second, investing can (and should) have a positive impact on people’s lives. It can be an avenue to serve others, helping them lead a fuller life. This gives my work meaning and purpose. Throughout my career, I’ve tried to find companies and roles where I could maximize these two distinct elements.For the last two decades, I’ve found this combination of intellectual diversity and service in Investment Consulting. I’ve served as a trusted advisor to clients, performed due diligence on a wide range of asset classes, and managed people and projects. I’ve worked with clients on their asset allocation and portfolio construction, and I’ve led research teams. Investment Consultant has been a great place to be a generalist. Outside of work, I have enjoyed coaching youth basketball teams for several years. What started as simply a reason to spend time with my sons has blossomed into a real passion. And like any self-respecting U of C grad, I read as much and as varied as I can, and still take the occasional course. You never know when or where that next bolt of inspiration is going to strike.
