About Jeff John
I’m editor-in-chief at Canary Media Inc, the energy transition and climate tech nonprofit newsroom. I\'m a journalist with nearly two decades of reporting and editing experience, including 7 years at the Anchorage Daily News, Tri-City Herald and Fresno Bee newspapers and 12 years at Greentech Media. I’ve covered successive cycles of investment and retrenchment in the clean power and digital energy sectors, and gained experience and familiarity with key individuals and institutions in the field. My work is driven by an abiding faith in technology that can halt and reverse the worst effects of global warming, and a fascination with examining and explaining the economic, public policy and social conditions that can foster the proliferation of — or stand in the way of — new technologies being put to use to the greatest benefit. I’ve worked independently and with a tight-knit team of reporters, editors and affiliated analysts to identify and explore the key issues facing the industries I cover, balancing daily coverage of complex topics under tight deadline with long-term investigative and explainer pieces. For the past five years I’ve helped build an audience of more than individual and more than 40 corporate and institutional enterprise customers for the GTM Squared subscription site. I’m also an experienced public presenter and speaker, both at Greentech Media conferences and as a moderator and panelist at events such as DistribuTECH and the ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit.
