Edit articles, policy briefs, occasional papers, and books in the areas of national security, national security policy, defense policy, and joint professional military education to ensure that the fundamentals of scholarly research and writing are present and applicable to the audience at hand. Analyze graduate- and postgraduate-level manuscripts in terms of objectives, audience, writing style, and subject matter for possible publication in Joint Force Quarterly and PRISM (both DOD professional military and interagency journals). Consult with subject matter experts and use the Internet and library resources to ensure factual correctness and accuracy of arguments within manuscripts. Copyedit manuscripts at the expert level for grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, format, notes (scholarship), bibliographies, and tables/figures/artwork. Prepare manuscripts and compose all paperwork (SF1, 2511, 952, 907, etc.) to send manuscripts to the Government Printing Office (GPO) for layout/design, printing, and distribution. Work with GPO and in-house designers to ensure that proper layout/design elements are appropriate for the type of publication and subject matter. Manage the printing process from reading proofs and covers to attending press sheet and binding inspections to packaging and distributing. Manage in-house Web master in preparing electronic publications for Web publication and mass distribution to interested audiences. Manage all editing and production of two quarterly journals, books, occasional papers, policy briefs, and Web publications. Manage the principal liaison to NDU Public Affairs Office who works with OSD Policy and WHS to ensure that all manuscripts are CLEARED before press. Work with professional contract indexers to ensure accuracy of work accomplished and ensure that contractors receive payment.
