About Jeff Smith
Jeff graduated from USC Upstate, earned a Master of Business Administration from USC and has over 25 years of work experience outside academia. His primary responsibility is teaching entrepreneurship classes, where in the past 12 years over 50 new businesses, with annual revenues exceeding $75 million, have emerged from business plans developed by students in Jeff’s New Business Enterprise class and his office. His research interests center on costs and efficiencies in higher education and intercollegiate athletics, and this work has been published in the Journal of Leadership, Accountability and Ethics, the Journal of Business Cases and Applications, and the Journal of Sport. This research has appeared recently in three books, Forbes, NY Times, Washington Post, Bloomberg, USA Today, Chicago Tribune and multiple other publications. In 2013, Jeff published Your Path Ahead, a guidebook focused on preventing excessive student debt for prospective college students. In 2015, he was honored to be selected by students for the USC Upstate Excellence in Teaching and Advising Award.
