About Jeff Paine
Jeff Paine grew up in Pennsylvania, where his love for science and the natural world began early. What started as years of collecting used batteries because he knew “one day they’d figure out something else to do with them,” became a BA in Physics, Masters degrees in both Earth Sciences and Chemical Engineering, and ultimately, in 2009, the start of Austin’s full-service composting and recycling company, Break it Down. Jeff and his co-founder / wife, Melanie MacFarlane, have since taken Break it Down from a small operation to Austin’s premier solution for all things composting, recycling, and food re-use, for commercial businesses.
