ABOUT JEFF MUIRHEAD

I am a River and Water Resources Engineer (P.Eng.) with 9 years of experience in engineering design and consulting and 3 years of experience in river research/academia. Based in Whitehorse, YT, I specialize in stream restoration and fish habitat/passage design, using the fundamentals of fluvial geomorphology, hydraulics, and Natural Channel Design (NCD) to create sustainable, productive systems for aquatic organisms and humans alike. I particularly value the inter-disciplinary work I do with aquatic/terrestrial biologists and fluvial geomorphologists, as I believe this is paramount to producing quality, resilient, high-performing ecosystems. I have worked on projects across Canada and the United States and have experience in all project stages, from proposals and management through to permitting, design, reporting, tendering, construction administration, and monitoring. In addition to my river design work, I have proficiency in a wide range of surface water applications including hydrology, hydraulics, fish passage design, stormwater management, floodplain mapping, and erosion/sediment control. I have also completed a Masters of Applied Science (M.ASc.) degree in river science and eco-hydraulics, where I investigated the hydraulic characteristics of spawning habitat for Walleye and Lake Sturgeon on the Rainy River in northwestern Ontario.
