Jeff Lisath was twice named an All-Ohio basketball player at Portsmouth High School, where he led the Trojans to a State Championship in 1978, scoring a school record 40 points in the tournament while earning State Tournament MVP. He was a three-time inductee of the PHS Hall of Fame. He attended college at Miami Ohio University as a four-year letterman, Team Captain, and Defensive Player of the Year. He won the Marshall North Award for his outstanding commitment, sportsmanship, and leadership while playing at Miami. Jeff participated in tryouts for the NBA New Jersey Nets in 1982 and the Washington Bullets in 1983 as an undrafted free agent.Jeff started his coaching career at Columbus State Community College in 1983, where he was Head Coach for three years, finishing with a 59-9 overall record. Jeff returned to his hometown of Portsmouth, where he was an Assistant coach for seven years while helping lead the Trojans to another State Championship in 1988. Jeff left Portsmouth to take on head coaching positions in Chillicothe, Piketon, and Dayton Ohio where he has enjoyed much success amassing a career record of 449-250, winning multiple Conference Championships, Sectionals, and District Titles and the unforgettable season in 2009 where he led Piketon to its first-ever State Tournament Final-Four appearance, 2019 he led Northridge to the Elite Eight. Jeff has been named Conference Coach of the Year seven times and District Coach of the Year six times, and recently received the 2023 OHSBCA/OHSAA Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award. In 2015, he was named AP Ohio Division Coach of the Year. In addition to being a guest speaker at coaching clinics, including the 2015 Nike Basketball Coaching Clinic, Jeff coached the North/South All-Star team in 2012.Jeff is the author of two books, “In Jesus\' Name I Played” and “My Faith and Basketball,” Released in March 2020. A third book, “Faith on the Court,” will be released in the summer of 2025.
