1. National Lead, Usace\'s Engineering with Nature

   The USACE Engineering With Nature® (EWN®) Program is developing science, engineering, and technologies to deliver nature-based solutions (NBS) for navigation, flood risk management, water operations, ecosystem restoration, and other water resources and infrastructure. Nature-based solutions leverage natural structures, functions, and systems to provide a broad array of engineering, economic, environmental, and social benefits. Practical and implementable approaches for planning, design, construction, and operations and maintenance of nature-based solutions (NBS) are needed to support adaptation to climate change and natural hazards,(e.g, storms, flooding, drought, wildfires). Further, approaches are needed for combining NBS with conventional engineering solutions (e.g, floodwalls, levees) in complementary ways that produce additive and diversified value for communities. The program is advancing NBS by leveraging extensive relationships, partnerships, and collaborations across government agencies, the private sector, non-profit organizations, and academia through the Network for Engineering With Nature (n-ewn.org).
