About Jeff Clayton
Jeff Clayton is a retired IBM Executive IT Architect with over 42 years of IT experience. He has over 24 years of experience in the banking and financial industry, and was serving as an Executive IT Architect for Payments in the IBM Watson Financial Services Solutions organization working with financial institutions across North America. Jeff takes a pragmatic approach to designing new solutions and improving existing architectures using a \"progressive renovation\" approach. This approach first looks at the overall business and IT requirements, and then develops an overall architecture to address these requirements. He then creates an architectural roadmap that breaks the required changes into multiple phases to be implemented based on the prioritization of the business requirements. This \"progressive renovation\" approach reduces the risk, accelerates the benefits and spreads the cost over the multiple phases.Jeff served as the Lead Architect for IBM Global Services (IGS) Payments Practice. In 2006, Jeff led the first customer implementation of IBM’s new payments integration infrastructure at the 4th largest bank in the U.S. and published the first white paper on the solution. In July 2008, Jeff became the lead architect for the IBM Payment Solutions group in IBM’s Financial Services Sector (FSS) where he focused on banks throughout North America. He also been asked to help with payments opportunities at banks in Europe and in China, and co-authored an article on payment analytics published in the Journal of Payments Strategy & Systems. Additionally, Jeff served on IBM’s IT Architect Certification Board for the Americas. Jeff was also certified as a Distinguished Architect with The Open Group.
