ABOUT JEAN-PHILIPPE M.

Physicist with 10+ years of experience in laser physics, experimental optics, and optical remote sensing. I am the technical lead on GHGSat’s next-generation instruments to detect and quantify methane emissions from space. I also developed the capability to detect methane emissions coming from offshore platforms using GHGSat\'s satellite constellation in a sun glint configuration. In 2022, I was responsible for GHGSat’s successful detection and quantification of the methane leak from the offshore Nord Stream 2 pipeline explosion. While at Stanford, I was leading the laser coupling team at Stanford as part of ACHIP (Accelerator on a Chip International Program) to build a particle accelerator on an integrated chip for medical and scientific applications. My PhD focused on exploring applications of high-dimensional entangled photons. I built an ultrafast pulse characterization instrument for single photons using a nonlinear interaction in a crystal. This technique allowed us to measure single-photons on sub-picosecond timescales, increasing the time resolution of standard detectors by two orders of magnitude. I also developed an iterative algorithm that used this measurement technique to reconstruct the amplitude and phase of an two-photon entangled state. In addition, I have worked on a range of projects which include measuring laser ablation mechanisms for removing space debris, storing photons in a quantum memory made of diamond, exploring the quantum foundations of causality, as well as designing an entire museum exhibit on the science of light.
