ABOUT JEAN-BERNARD THEVENON
After a thesis in Robotics and AI, I continued working in this area at Framentec (Framatome wholly own subsidiary), in International R&D projects while starting to work on industrial project having either a strong theoretical aspect (automation and control law) or using expert system (G2 for example). I then joined Euriware (Cogema/SGN). Immersion in La Hague industrial site was a real benefit to understand what computer science, I&C and automation can offer to the Operator and also the requirement that an operator of a Nuclear Facility such as La Hague can have and the consequences on software development, testing, commissioning and maintenance. Working in the international context of EURATOM, IAEA and CTBTO was a good experience showing to me that corresponding Treaties rely also on a knowledge representation which differs from the one I had due to I&C projects. Radiation protection was always a field of interest and I took the opportunity to develop a tool togetehr with CEA LIST mixing Virtual Reality (Virtools) with dose computing (deterministic approach with gammas). Then since 2005, Virtual Reality is a field on interest initially addressed via radiation protection. I still worked on devices and system for intervention then started a work about wireless for field worker, supported by AREVA CORP DRD and we did a big project with EDF in parallel. Finally the new technologies, new standards such as OPC UA, improvment of wireless technology (low power and PAN) can let us foresee a connected and augmented Field Worker. Virtual reality, augmented reality, modeling, digital wireless communication, all these fields are related: it is the digitalization of each aspects of a complex intervention schema in harsh environment. This digital continuity is a source of performance when accepted. The use of operationnal principle together with digital expertise leverage the process mapping and reprocessing to provide a real and deployed digital transformation.
