About John D. Veal
I’m a results-driven leader who believes in the power of public service, strategic thinking, and community engagement to create lasting impact. With over 50 years of combined experience in military leadership, federal service, procurement, higher education, and civic organizations, I’ve spent my life advancing missions that matter.I retired from the U.S. Army as a First Sergeant, having served in roles ranging from military pay specialist to operations NCO. That foundation of discipline and accountability carried forward into my work with the U.S. Small Business Administration, where I served as District Director in both Oklahoma and Alaska. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I led the distribution of billions of dollars in relief funds to small businesses—many of them in rural, tribal, or underserved communities.Beyond federal service, I’ve remained deeply committed to the institutions and communities that shaped me. I serve as an adjunct professor at Cameron University and Oklahoma City University, where I teach accounting, management, and entrepreneurship. I’ve led professional associations like NIGP, OkAPP, and the Society for Case Research, and I’ve published peer-reviewed research on case-based learning and public administration.I also believe that leadership is service. That’s why I stay active in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, where I currently serve as Basileus of Psi Upsilon Chapter and have held multiple district-level finance and communications roles. My work with the 9th District Scholarship Committee, AMBUCS, and other organizations reflects my lifelong focus: helping others grow, achieve, and succeed. Key Competencies: • Federal and State Procurement • Public Sector Strategy • Small Business Development • Higher Education Leadership • Fiscal Accountability & Audit Oversight • Veteran & Community Outreach • Case-Based Instruction and Research • Board Governance
