About Jonathan Hunt
I\'m a product-focused lead / staff software engineer who believes strongly in several things when it comes to working on software projects:• - our job is to deliver what stakeholders need. I really believe in collaboration with our partners and not only doing exactly what they tell us - but to work together and deliver the software that our consumers really need. I am definitely stronger in backend engineering (Golang for the past 5 years, but I have deep experience in several different languages), but I do thrive on contributing in any and all ways to get the job done. That may mean jumping into the front-end or modifying a Helm chart to get the service into a Kubernetes environment.• - the software needs to do what it is supposed to do! That means testing our own work, ensuring it meets specifications, and can be relied upon under stress and peak usage.• - I love a clean, consistent, and understandable code base, but sometimes we have to work with what we have. As much as I enjoy writing greenfield microservices, sometimes we have a proven and reliable monolith that may hurt the eyes to look at. That means we may sometimes improve the code, increase test coverage, and break things out into separate services when warranted, but we can\'t just rewrite it all from scratch.• - I am not just a ticket taker and code monkey. Granted, I absolutely love coding and developing software, but I also like to design and implement solutions whether it is to reduce technical debt, improve performance, or to deliver key new features.• - I have been in software for a long time. And the reason is simple - I love what I do! I believe strongly that my experience is valuable on any team I work on as well as across an engineering organization. I like to level-up fellow engineers, lead by example and through collaborative working sessions.• - Even with my experience I am always learning! Languages, platforms, tools, etc. all come and go. But the ability to learn and adapt to tools, processes, and different engineering cultures is paramount to building a successful career!Outside of work, I very much enjoy the outdoors. I am an avid runner, currently on a quest to run a marathon in every state. I also enjoy cycling, hiking, climbing mountains, and photography.Technical SkillsGo (Golang), Postgres, Kubernetes, Pulsar, TypeScript, React, Java, Spring Boot, AWS, JavaScript, Kafka, Spark, Airflow, MongoDB, MySQL
