My professional background began with clinical internal medicine before transitioning to insurance medicine. In 2007, I founded Strategic Medical Consulting (SMC), Inc. where I function as a physician medical consultant providing expert underwriting analysis and advice directly to life insurance advisors and to life insurance underwriters. Successful producers who provide their clients with “connoisseur” service, differentiate their practices from others. In-house medical underwriting is part of the expertise necessary for this level of service. Collaboratively, the life insurance advisor and I work with life insurance carriers, which results in more rapid post-submission underwriting turn-around times and often more favorable underwriting decisions compared to the usual case submission process. Strategic Medical Consulting also provides a variety of services to life insurance carriers. My unique background provides carriers a different kind of medical director, one whose goals are not just “protecting mortality”, but more importantly, placing profitable business on the books. This is accomplished by assisting underwriters to make sound underwriting decisions and to provide the producer with a pathway to possibly get the case issued when necessary.
