Hyphen is pioneering the development of a gigawatt-scale, fully vertically integrated green hydrogen project. I was Hyphen’s first in-country hire, responsible for establishing and operationalising a Namibian presence, setting up the Windhoek HQ and building a cross-functional technical and operations team to drive technical development of Namibia’s first large-scale green hydrogen project. Led concept development and early de-risking for a €multi-billion green hydrogen project, the most advanced initiative of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa and top 5 in green hydrogen project global merit order, positioning Hyphen as a strategic leader in sustainable energy transition. Developed an early fallback Material Offloading Facility (MOF) option which became the primary option in establishing a de-risked logistical base case for Hyphen’s project cargo import strategy for delivery of 650 wind turbines. Mitigated major ESG risks by advocating for a strategic pivot away from initially assumed development sites with unfavourable legacies, enabling reputational risk avoidance while enhancing logistics. Enabled a culture of innovation, successfully droving Capex reduction through system synergies. Enabled and supported Hyphen’s assessment of various potential strategic pivots by identifying emerging commercial opportunities and advising leadership on market-ready alternatives, increasing project resilience and value amid evolving global demand. Catalysed two pivotal stakeholder initiatives, the Industry Incubation Forum and the Town Transformation Programme, fostering equitable local capacity-building, shared vision, and strategic alignment, subsequently integrated into Hyphen’s Socio-Economic Development team. Initiated ‘lunch and learn’ sessions to build Hyphen’s local internal capability, becoming a key technical & development priority reference point across multiple workstreams.
