ABOUT JAY S. MANN

LLB (Hons) graduate presently enroled on the ICCA\'s bar course looking for opportunities at the English Bar and in academia with a focus on civil litigation (medical, clinical, professional negligence and the law on the proceeds of crime) Engaged with the law through a range of continuing experiences. In summary- International legal experience: As part of longer summer internships abroad over a month in each sitting, assisted in civil (contract/insurance, medical negligence, shipping and insolvency) appellate litigation and directly contributed in the research and formulation of arguments and the drafting of written submissions.(the Appellant\'s Case, Skeleton submissions and the Bundles of Authorities) Two of my arguments for a contract/insurance law appeal were used in their original form in the Appellant\'s Case before the High Court. Undertaking longer internships abroad in jurisdictions such as Singapore that have a unified legal profession that does not separate itself between solicitors and barristers allowed me to engage fully with both research and case management and pre-trial preparation and the subsequent trials/hearings- Legal experience & judicial shadowing: Completed mini-pupillages focused on issues in civil litigation and continue to benefit from the mentorship of Barristers who supervised my mini-pupillages in England. Shadowed an Appellate judge at the RCJ- Competitive mooting: Experienced and accomplished mooter at the university and national level in mooting competitions focused on appellate issues in civil, public and trust law: Champion of the Undergraduates Second and Third Years\' Competitive Mooting Cup and Grand Finalist of the Property Bar Association National Moot, emerging as the top undergraduate team- Publications: Former Editor for a comparative law journal whose articles were reviewed by the previous Chief Justice of Singapore, authored an article for a think tank based in London, published an article for the university\'s undergraduate law journal and entrant for the Bar Council\'s Law Reform Essay Competition 2023 - Legal research and thesis: Published a dissertation titled \'When trial judges should be entitled to withdraw defences from the jury in criminal trials\', under the supervision of Professor Paul Roberts of Roberts and Zuckerman\'s Criminal Evidence 11th Ed OUP I am most keen on engaging with further mini-pupillages as I prepare to apply for pupillage.
