Having co-founded Aquarius Marine Coatings Ltd, who manufacturer Coppercoat, over 30 years ago, I have an in-depth understanding of marine coatings and the urgent need to develop long lasting, durable and environmentally responsible solutions to protect the oceans. Developed and rigorously tested over three decades, award-winning Coppercoat is the only antifoul available which has a proven track record of providing unparalleled protection for boats and equipment for a decade or more. We continue to evolve, develop and update our products and are committed to providing the best eco and long-lasting solution available to boat builders, boat owners, industry, renewable energy providers and beyond. Along with my business partner, Ewan Clark, I have been responsible for Coppercoat’s expansion, which includes successfully launching and supplying Coppercoat to over 70 territories worldwide, though a network of 39 distributors, driving growth and launching brands Coppercoat Superyacht and Coppercoat Commercial. From 20••••17 Coppercoat Commercial took part in the world’s longest independent antifoul trial, ran by Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML), sponsored by EDF Energy and Rolls Royce. Over the five year’s of emersion, in an incredibly harsh environment, Coppercoat only lost 4.3% of its coating thickness, whilst all other antifoul products participating, lost 100% of their coating and much of the priming system beneath. This empirically demonstrates that CC is the only viable, long-life antifoul coating available.This result was confirmation of what we already knew from our work with MCT Ltd and Bristol Channel turbine over a decade earlier. Commercial offers huge benefits including cost savings, reduced maintenance, increased performance, environmental credentials and much more. We also work with leading boat builders including Oyster, Sunreef, Selene, Nordhavn and many more. This gives us tremendous insight into the sustainability challenges of boat owners, builders and operators around the world. Coppercoat exceeds environmental standards globally, low in VOC, is tin free and twice been awarded the \'Most Eco-Friendly Business Award\' at the China International Boat Show (2011 & 2025).Coppercoat is proud to be an official supplier to the Clipper Round the World Race. Not many yachts have travelled and the fleet are still being protected by the original Coppercoat application from 2017, saving them precious time and budget. We are looking forward to watching the race in 2025/26, alongside Coppercoat’s brilliant performance too.
