I once was on TV with THE Ozzy Osbourne. He was exactly what you would imagine: funny, totally rock n roll, easily distracted and wholly reverent toward Memphis music. Promoting Memphis music has been a part of my job description for 16 years. Jobs that people all over the world would do for free: I’ve had the pleasure of developing iconic experiences at The Legendary Sun Studio, Stax Museum of American Soul Music, Memphis Tourism, and currently Soulsville Foundation. I’ve judged official EPE Elvis Tribute Artist contests (in other states- even!), and created traveling soul music exhibits, written museum text panels, curated Civil Rights playlists, spoken on US music tourism panels in Liverpool, and placed weekly articles showcasing local live Memphis music. I’ve hosted current Memphis radio programs, revamped gift shops, developed licensed merch, and co-lead and conceptualized an entire summer concert series’ in 2021, amid social distancing navigating. I’ve volunteered at awards ceremonies, developed successful holiday marketing campaigns, and wrote and conceptualized Memphis music themed Black History Month public art. The core of everything I’ve done was to sell, promote, and preserve something I love. Like any multi-decade career, my skill and experience is stacked and scattered like a good hashbrown, but the thru-line is always the same: I help companies tell their Memphis music story to new and existing audiences. I want them to love it as much as I do. Jayne Ellen White-Clark is a fearless boy mom, a tour wife, an enthusiastic home cook, a Black life advocate, and always a music and writing freak.
