About Jay Lim
I’m a proud Coog from the University of Houston, currently working as a Process Safety Consultant at Smith & Burgess, where I help clients like Shell, Saudi Aramco, Valero, and others ensure safe and efficient operations through detailed safety analyses and risk management. My role has allowed me to build deep expertise in API standards and codes, while delivering tailored process safety and relief system solutions. Previously, I interned as a Production Engineer at Kuraray America’s PVOH-Bayport Plant, focusing on utility optimization, alarm management, PHAs, PSSRs, MOCs, leak calculations, field testing, and root cause failure analysis. Beyond the workplace, I’m passionate about mentorship and building community. I serve as a Family Lead with SASE and AIChE, lead College Algebra workshops for underclassmen through the Scholars Enrichment Program, and support peers as a Peer Tutor at UH-LAUNCH in science and engineering subjects. I also founded and continue to advise Badminton and Recreation at UH (BRUH)—creating a space for connection through shared interests. I\'ve also published a paper in Angewandte Chemie (see more below)! Let’s connect—whether you want to talk process safety, student leadership, or just share stories over a good rally.
