About Jay Harbath

One of the contract engineers called when the multi-million dollar project is months behind schedule and results need to improve quickly. Personal mission is to work like a bulldog to fix the problems, get it running and clean it up so the plant can support it. Goals include minimizing 3 AM trouble calls, and keep government inspectors happy with the quality of the work and documentation. An “outside the box” engineer with a long history of innovative ideas. Usually find ways to automate the automation process for better quality and quicker, more consistent results. Extensive experience with Biotech/Pharma control systems using Rockwell ControlLogix (CLX) hardware, PlantPAx and FTView and FTBatch software. Developed software architecture and code, prepared requirements documents, performed extensive code reviews and testing, performed field startup and validation support per FDA cGMP standards and acted as a technical resource. Developed numerous CLX programming, code generation and analysis tools that can reduce coding by over 60% while improving CLX code quality and reducing startup and validation requirements. Innovative HTST control with an inner pressure loop, middle inlet temperature loop and outer outlet temperature loop with feed forward temperature compensation and set point ramping. Developing a new methodology for loop tuning that makes the process dramatically faster and easier. Developed a means of controlling access to and operating 30+ vendor skids to make the CLX fruit salad look like a Delta V apple orchard, using Delta V phases to insure S88 / CFR Part 11 compliant. I designed inte interface and programmed the Rockwell side. I am a Delta V ignoramus. Integrated the CLX skid information into the Delta V alarm system and data historian with automatically generated code, reducing engineering time and validation headaches. One of those folks who thinks it is fun to convert legacy Rockwell SLCs, PLC-5s and old PanelViews into new Rockwell stuff. It\'s no fun buying spare PLC parts on E-Bay.

Worked with the process engineers on P & ID and process refinement and with the system integrators on automation design and documentation. Coordinated with the process equipment vendors to make sure their equipment could be properly integrated into the overall automation scheme. Responsible for the chromatography, nano filtration, buffer preparation areas, centrifuges, clean in place (CIP) systems, single use mixers (SUM) and the final bulk product bottle filling process equipment. Evaluated and helped redesign the mix-proof valve buffer distribution matrices. Supervised the integration of the process control system and the chromatography and centrifuge equipment.
