About Jay Blury

I believe careers should be filled with passion and purpose. I\'m not one for climbing the corporate ladder. Instead, you will find me building bridges to bring people together and open up undiscovered possibility. My personal purpose is to enable profound, positive change: in others and in the greater world we all share. I seek communities where we can contribute to positive change and be part of something inspired. A tad about me: I hail from Alaska and currently live in the Portland metro area. I enjoy trying new recipes and am an avid supporter of rescuing dogs (I have two husky mixes). I love being on the water or sitting quietly on a trailside observing nature. I believe in kindness above all things. It\'s a daily practice. About my career in marketing: I have more than 20 years of working in marketing and communications - primarily in B2B in the banking and telecom industries. My expertise is broad from brand strategy to campaign development; research and analytics to budgeting; advertising to digital marketing; and partnering with marketing agencies. I can pivot from high level business planning, to digging in to metrics, to developing strategic messaging. I have been managing professional marketers for 15 years. I have an insatiable curiosity of human behavior. People are complex, coming from different backgrounds, demographics, and life experiences. This is what has kept me in marketing - the journey to finding what motivates people to take a particular action, and the attempt to segment and target based on certain characteristics, but paired with the psychology of the buyer. The opportunity to bring people closer to a brand that helps their daily lives is the true reward in this line of work.I am a lifelong steward and student of effective leadership. I subscribe to the philosophy that if you don\'t allow your employees to say no, then they can never say yes powerfully. I have learned that leadership is a conversational art - usually what is missing is a conversation. Let\'s have a conversation!

Experience

  1. VP, Director of Marketing and Communications

    Beneficial State Bank

Mar 2025 — Present · Portland, OR, US

I lead Marketing & Communications for a mission-driven bank, shaping how we show up across brand, communications, and digital marketing. A big part of my work is bringing structure and consistency to our marketing efforts so the organization can move more confidently and make better decisions. I partner closely with senior leaders and product teams to turn business goals into clear plans, strengthen our processes, and build reporting that helps us understand what’s working. Across all channels, I make sure our messaging is aligned, compliant, and true to our mission—while building the systems and rhythm that help marketing support long-term organizational priorities and real impact.
