At Optum Labs, I lead the design and development of an advanced data engineering platform built on Microsoft Azure, aimed at modernizing and streamlining enterprise analytics. This initiative focuses on building highly scalable, secure, and efficient ETL and real-time streaming pipelines that integrate data from diverse on-premise systems like DB2 and Teradata into cloud-based targets such as Azure SQL Database and Azure Data Lake Storage.My work centers on architecting complex, reusable Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines with parameterized components for automated ingestion, transformation, and loading of large-scale datasets. I develop Databricks notebooks using both PySpark and Scala to support advanced data wrangling, implement Slowly Changing Dimension Type 2 (SCD2) logic, and enable real-time data processing through Spark Structured Streaming, tightly integrated with Azure Event Hub and Service Bus Queue.To ensure performance and cost optimization, I manage Databricks cluster configurations and implement lifecycle management policies for Blob Storage, particularly for snapshot retention. I also automate the daily ingestion of data from external web services and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps for ADF and Databricks deployments—enforcing secure, auditable, and efficient workflows across environments.Beyond engineering, I play a key role in driving data governance and quality by implementing Master Data Management (MDM) practices and facilitating regular stakeholder alignment meetings. I also build and maintain Power BI dashboards that translate complex datasets into clear, actionable insights, enabling business stakeholders to make informed, data-driven decisions that advance Optum Labs’ mission to deliver innovative, high-quality healthcare solutions.
