Responsible for the safe operation of passenger trains. Responsibilities also include:• Maintain Conductor certification with annual testing• Making sure the train stays on schedule• Ensuring that any cars and cargo and passengers are picked up and dropped off properly• Completing en-route paperwork • Ensuring the train follows applicable safety rules and practices• Controlling the train\'s movement while operating in reverse• Coupling or uncoupling cars• Setting out or picking up of rolling stock• Carrying out running repairs• Ticket collection and other customer service duties• Opening and closing train doors• Oversee proper performance of Onboard Service Employees• Ensure passenger comfort• Handling of passenger complaints.• Responsible for assuring proper passenger conduct, and the removal of any passengers who are disorderly, or a danger to themselves or others • Made public address system announcements, concerning points of interest and stops and train information• Jointly coordinate with the engineer and dispatcher the train\'s movement authority, and verifying this authority is not exceeded• Communicate and coordinating with other parties—yardmasters, trainmasters, dispatchers, on board service personnel, etc.• Be alert to wayside signals, switch position, and other conditions that affect safe train movement• Mechanically inspect rolling stock• Assist the engineer in testing the train\'s air brakes• Signal the engineer when to start or stop moving• Keep a log of the journey and delays• Check tickets and collect fares• Manually line switches when needed• Trained in CPR and portable AED useIn the event of a derailment, terrorist attack, or disaster, I am in charge and responsible for triage, delegation of duties to other employees, and performing first aid including CPR until relieved. While working for Amtrak as Conductor I was twice nominated, and received, Amtrak’s prestigious “President’s Safety and Service Award” & 2006
