ABOUT JAVIER A. MUNIZ

I am a physician, psychiatrist, and regulatory strategist with more than two decades of experience at the intersection of clinical care, public service, and pharmaceutical innovation. I began my career as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force, where I served in both clinical and leadership roles across high-intensity environments, including Afghanistan.I later joined the U.S. Public Health Service, where I led psychiatric services for Wounded Warrior programs and supported national security initiatives. During my tenure, I held multiple leadership roles in high-impact federal deployments, including serving as Chief Medical Officer for the initial federal response to the Lahaina wildfires in Hawai, Chief Medical Officer for the FDA’s Federal Vaccination Taskforce during the COVID-19 pandemic, and commander of a multidisciplinary medical team supporting the Office of the Attending Physician at the U.S. Capitol. These assignments strengthened my operational leadership in complex environments and reinforced my commitment to coordinated, mission-driven public health service.For over a decade, I contributed to public health through multiple roles at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, spanning leadership positions in the Division of Psychiatry and management of controlled substance initiatives within CDER’s Office of the Center Director. My work focused on neuropsychiatric drug development, regulatory policy, and the advancement of novel therapeutics to treat mental health conditions.Today, I serve as Chief Medical Officer at Lykos Therapeutics and Frontier Pharma, where I lead medical strategy for innovative therapies including psychedelic-assisted treatments. I also advise biotech companies through my consultancy, Muniz PsyNova Solutions LLC. Previously, I served as Vice President of R&D Strategy at MindMed, where I helped advance clinical programs in novel CNS therapeutics.My focus remains on translating scientific discovery into regulatory and clinical success. I am committed to helping companies bring forward safe, effective, and meaningful treatments for people living with serious psychiatric conditions.
