ABOUT JASON ROPELL

Jason Ropell is an accomplished entertainment industry leader with 20+ years of success at some of the world\'s largest content companies. Most recently Jason was Chief Content Officer at MUBI, overseeing development, production, acquisitions, theatrical distribution, programming and editorial, for MUBI, as well as sales and production company The Match Factory, which MUBI acquired in 2022. Since joining MUBI Jason has overseen the acquisition/production and release of more than 50 films globally including Decision To Leave, Aftersun, Fallen Leaves, The Girl With The Needle (Oscar nominated for Best International Feature),The Substance,(Oscar nominated for Best Picture and Director), and this year’s The Mastermind, and Die My Love. Today, Jason continues to advise MUBI on creative and strategy.Prior, Jason was the Vice President of World Wide Motion Pictures at Amazon. In his role Jason oversaw all film content for Amazon’s Prime Video platforms worldwide including all acquisitions and licensing relationships with all major studios and producers around the world with an annual budget exceeding $2B. In 2015 Jason established Amazon’s film studio overseeing all development, production, distribution, and marketing of Amazon Studios original films. In 2016 Amazon Studios received 7 Oscar nominations, winning 2 for Manchester by the Sea (Best Actor & Best Original Screenplay) and 1 for The Salesman (Best Foreign Language Film) the first ever for a streaming service. In 2017 Jason oversaw the acquisition and release of the Oscar nominated The Big Sick. In 2018, he assembled a slate including Beautiful Boy, and Cold War which was Oscar nominated for Best Director, Best Foreign Language and Best Cinematography.Ropell joined Amazon in 2012 overseeing all content on Amazon\'s international video platforms in Europe, and launching their video service in Japan. In this role Ropell was a programming pioneer, acquiring the first major network and studio shows ever to premiere on an OTT platform. Ropell also oversaw the first UK original TV show for Amazon, and led the team that acquired the new version of Top Gear with the original hosts, The Grand Tour.Prior to joining Amazon, Ropell was Vice President of Content at Netflix where he helped launch their first two international locales, Canada and LATAM. Ropell began his career as an entertainment lawyer.
