About Jason Byrd
I like to joke that what I actually do at work is serve as a marriage counselor. As someone who architects large-scale change across matrixed organizations, I often uncover lots of emotions. To help manage these feelings, I take a two-pronged approach: first, I get to know people to uncover their concerns and foster trust; second, I work to help people reframe their reactions and see change as a positive thing. I believe that lending an empathetic ear to people’s concerns is not only the right thing to do, but it also produces the most efficient business outcomes. As a college student, I became fascinated by healthcare reform. I followed this passion to law school so that I would be positioned to influence healthcare policy. To grow my expertise in this field, throughout the I served as a policy analyst for the United Network for Organ Sharing, Associate Director of Quality Alliances for the American College of Cardiology, and the Director of Practice Management, Quality and Regulatory Affairs for the American Society of Anesthesiologists. I joined Atrium Health in 2012, where I have been progressively promoted from Director of Patient Safety to Enterprise Vice President of Integration. My work integrating 18 service lines, exceeding synergies targets 163%, and saving $180M annually by identifying efficiencies was recognized in 2022 by Atrium Health CEO Gene Woods, who awarded me with the Tree of Life Coin, Atrium’s highest honor given to 12 out of 77K teammates each year. My leadership is characterized by three traits: embracing change to pursue excellence, meeting others where they are to optimize collaboration, and relying on objective analysis to empower decision-making. I am a creative problem solver who is able to take a step back, look for the right answer, and determine the steps necessary to reach a goal. As a people manager, I am guided by the quote, “Be kind; everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” I know that people work best when they can be authentic about what they’re going through and have their concerns validated. Improved EBITDA $110M in first year of Atrium Health Navicent integration by standardizing processes and developing comprehensive integration roadmap. Exceeded synergies target 163% during Wake Forest Integration. Won and/or managed CMS contracts totaling $15.8M and implemented patient engagement effort recognized as top in the country by CMS: j••••••••@gmail.com
