ABOUT JASON DAY

I bring a unique blend of regulatory and environment experience coming from both the in-house corporate and consultant camps. This is coupled with field and desktop based research, comparative policy analysis, and biological and social science research to assess impacts of resource development projects. I am analytical, an adept researcher, and collaborative. I am also effective at developing and retaining business. I have worked in many jurisdictions, including British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Nunavut, and Washington State and within federal Canadian and USA project appraisal processes (CEAA, NEB, NEPA). This experience, as well as my Masters degree, has provided me with a well developed understanding of basic regulatory substantive and procedural requirements for natural resource development projects, and a practical approach to environmental impact assessments, including impact mitigation strategy design and implementation.Some highlights include- prospected utility scale wind and solar projects, in addition to landowner and community engagement, conceptual design, environmental assessment, and regulatory approvals- evaluated project effects from First Nation, Métis, or Inuit perspective and expectations - conducted cultural land use and rights impact assessment - conducted a traditional land use study for a culturally important creek impacted by in-situ oilsands project- conducted strategic and operational level land use impact assessments for oilsands, mine, sand and gravel pits, wind power, and powerline projects- led and/or managed a handful of federal (CEAA and NEPA) and provincial/state level (BC, AB, WA) environmental impact assessment processes- conducted social impact assessment for Fairview Port Expansion, BC and Roman Mine, BC- conducted desktop wildlife studies for a variety of animal class/groups; including amphibians, ungulates, bats, and birds, including habitat suitability mapping- conducted desktop and field studies, and suitability mapping, for plant communities and species, including rare communities/species and traditional plants- presented research findings to company management, government regulators, and community members.
