ABOUT JASON M. GUARDINO
Dr. Jason Guardino serves as the Chief Experience Officer (CXO) for The Permanente Medical Group and the Chief Medical Officer for Care Experience (CMO-CX) at The Permanente Federation. In these roles, he leads the strategic vision for Care Experience while continuing to practice as a board-certified Gastroenterologist at Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center.As CXO, Dr. Guardino oversees a transformational initiative across 21 medical centers, guiding physicians and staff in creating caring moments for patients, their families, and each other. In his role as CMO-CX, he actively contributes to the vision of Kaiser Permanente’s national task force on consumer and patient strategy.Since joining The Permanente Medical Group in 2008, Dr. Guardino has held several leadership positions, including Chief of Gastroenterology (2010–2020), Assistant Chair of the Chiefs of Gastroenterology (2015–2020), Assistant Physician-in-Chief for outpatient and inpatient quality (2014–2019), and Regional Medical Director for Care Experience (2018–2022). He has been recognized annually as one of Sacramento Magazine’s Top Doctors since 2016.Dr. Guardino completed his post-doctoral training in Internal Medicine at The Cleveland Clinic, where he also completed fellowships in Gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy. He is the author of Primo Gastro, a popular handbook for gastroenterology residents and fellows. In addition to his medical degree, he holds a master’s degree in health education.An expert in transformational operations, leadership, culture change, and experience management, Dr. Guardino has lectured nationally on topics such as Exceptional Care Experience, Consumerism, and Human-Centered Healthcare. He has engaged with leading institutions, including the Cleveland Clinic, The Beryl Institute, Disney Institute, Qualtrics XM Institute, and others across diverse industries (retail, hospitality, and airlines) to share insights on customer and human experiences.Dr. Guardino and his wife, a Pediatric Infectious Diseases specialist, have three teenage children. They are avid swim parents and passionate about exploring national parks.
