ABOUT JASON BOYLE FRIBA
Chief Architect Engineer at UK Fusion Energy (UKFE) as part of the Design Authority function. Leading the Fusion Energy Programme’s architectural vision and infrastructure design strategy.Past role as Design Authority Lead for the ‘Great British Nuclear - Energy (GBE-N) UK SMR programme, and previously held the role of Senior Engineering Assurance Manager across UK nuclear defence facilities.With specialist knowledge in UK nuclear regulations, shielding, and radiological design, especially in civil and structural infrastructure. I have spent my career delivering complex buildings designed for 50–90 year life cycles, compliant with the most rigorous international standards.I am a Fellow and chair of Fellowship membership of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA). I am a registered architect, and a SQEP Civil, Structural & Architectural (CS & A) Responsible Engineer. I also sit as a Non-Executive Director on multiple UK boards.I have 17 years experience of operating as a Design Intelligent Client and Design Authority for nuclear facilities, leading design strategy from concept to completion. While at Sellafield Ltd, I directed design work for major nuclear projects valued between £1.1bn–£1.8bn and managed design budgets up to £60 million.Beyond nuclear, I’ve worked on social housing projects for Places for People and Riverside Housing, and I continue to champion better outcomes in public-sector design.An early adopter of Building Information Modelling (BIM), I’ve become a recognised thought leader in digital design transformation. I’ve spoken at events hosted by YouGov, Institution of Civil Engineers, RIBA, Manchester University, and Guglielmo Marconi University in Rome, among others. I also served as an advisor to BIM4Nuclear and BIM4Clients, and I’m the RIBA Ambassador for Civil Infrastructure.In 2013, I authored “BIM approach to a nuclear project: Sellafield Maintenance Facility” in The Structural Engineer, highlighting the cost and schedule savings delivered through innovative digital methods. This government ‘early adopter’ project has gone on to win several industry awards.I am the founder of the Global Architect Alliance (GAA), a mentoring company that mentors professionals at any stage in their careers and offers business mentoring to small architects practices. As host of The Broke Architect Podcast, I explore how we can reform the architecture profession. In just two years we’ve reached listeners across the globe.
