ABOUT JASON SMARTT
As a dedicated educational leader and Assistant Principal at Teller Elementary, I am committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive school environment. With a Master of Social Work from Metropolitan State University of Denver, I bring a strong background in restorative practices, student support, and community engagement.Throughout my career, I have successfully implemented and managed school-wide discipline programs, leading to significant reductions in disciplinary incidents and student suspensions. My focus on restorative practices has created a more inclusive school culture, as evidenced by a 90% reduction in suspensions during my tenure as RJ/Dean of Culture at Teller Elementary. I also spearheaded the Black Excellence Plan, which prioritized the social and emotional well-being of Black and Brown students, resulting in measurable improvements in their behavioral and emotional outcomes. In my current role, I develop and deliver training on MTSS, school culture, restorative practices, de-escalation, and classroom management, while providing coaching and support to teachers to align instructional strategies with grade-level standards. I am passionate about creating systems that identify and support students through timely and effective accommodations, ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed. My experience extends beyond the classroom, as I have successfully led DEI initiatives, launched volunteer programs, secured funding for critical resources, and facilitated community engagement efforts that strengthen ties between the school and the broader community.I am driven by a commitment to equity, social justice, and the well-being of students and staff. Being part of the Teller Elementary community allows me to continue my work in creating safe, supportive, and thriving educational environments where every student is seen, heard, and valued.
