Let me share an experience that demonstrates this. Previously I was on a team where I was developing a new backend system to monitor shopping carts for 7-Eleven to help curb shoplifting. There were times when product did not have much to implement. So since the QA person was the only one and really swamped I helped out by taking on some QA stories and verifying them. I had a good experience doing that since it helped learn something new and become more familiar with how our systems worked together.
