ABOUT JASON POTTS
Chief, Department of Public Safety, City of Las Vegas — our city jail, deputy city marshals and animal protection services. Previously, a Captain with the Vallejo Police Department (VPD) employed for 22 years. Prior to that, worked for Customs Border Protection (CBP) as a Border Patrol Agent in Calexico, California for 3 years. During my late years with VPD, privileged to lead our courageous cops in our Operations Bureau, Community Services Section, and Emergency Services Unit (ESU Commander). Also, a Reserve Military Special Agent with the Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS).Served in a variety of assignments, including Operations Bureau Captain, Investigations Bureau Captain, Patrol, Admin Lieutenant, Patrol Watch Commander, Major Case Section, Investigations, Crime Suppression Unit, Narcotics Team, DEA Task Force – Oakland, FBI Safe Streets Solano County Violent Gang Task Force, SWAT, ESU Commander, FTO Manager & FTO, Internal Affairs, and Bike Patrol Sergeant. Obtained a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) degree in Criminology, Law, and Society from the University of California, Irvine. Research interests included evidence-based policing, cognitive interviewing, employee health & wellness, artificial intelligence in law enforcement, virtual reality training, license plate readers, body-worn cameras, and the affect it has on our police. Priorities are my family & leading our courageous men and women. In my remaining spare time, contribute as President of the American Society of Evidence-Based Policing (ASEBP), National Policing Institute Executive Fellow, Futures Policing Fellow, NIJ LEADS scholar alumnus, and Council on Criminal Justice (CCJ) Member.
