I am the co-founder and Executive Director of Carry The Cross Ministries. Our ministry was opened in 2005 as an outreach to homeless individuals, families, and our community. As families are referred to our home, a four-plex called The Firehouse in Kansas City, KS, we have them go through an application process. If they are a fit for our home they are invited to stay for a period of up to one year. We do our best to help them feel like they are part of a supported family. They are given the opportunity to engage with spiritual, financial and emotional counseling. Depending upon where they are at life wise, we support them in their journey to find a job, car and to once again gain financial stability so that they can find freedom from the troubles that they were in. Within our community we try to reach out and connect with our neighbors in order to help them meet life, spiritual, emotional and physical needs. We hold many different outreaches and activities throughout the year in order to encourage that process. Many of our connections are with the children of our community who like to call The Firehouse a home away from home. We have animals, gardens and play equipment for all to engage with.
