ABOUT JASON JOHNSTON

Mr. Johnston is a structural engineer with 21 years of combined experience in the structural design and forensic engineering fields. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Louisiana Tech University in 2004 and Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering and Mechanics) from Missouri University of Science and Technology in 2024. He is currently pursuing a Master of Energy Conscious Construction (MECC) through the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture, School of Design and Construction at Washington State University. Mr. Johnston is licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the following states: AL, AR, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MS, MO, MT, NM, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, SC, SD, TN, TX, WA, WI, and WY. He is also licensed as a Structural Engineer (SE) in the following states: AZ, GA, HI, IL, NE, NV, OK, and UT. He holds an NCEES Record, passed the NCEES PE Civil/Structural, Structural I, and Structural II Exams, and is designated as a Model Law Structural Engineer (MLSE) by NCEES. He is also licensed as an FAA-Certified Drone Pilot (Remote Pilot Certificate). Mr. Johnston\'s forensic experience includes 12 years of investigating building enclosure failures, construction and design defects, and structural failures and collapses. He has led and performed numerous investigations to determine the cause(s) of structural failures and extent of structural damage related to construction vibrations, earthquakes, explosions, fires, vehicle/vessel impacts, and storm-induced forces associated with commercial, industrial, marine, and residential structures. He has also performed numerous investigations to determine the extent of damage to interior finishes, exterior wall cladding and fenestration systems, and roofing systems caused by flooding, hail, interior moisture sources, lightning, snow, wind, and water intrusion, including assessments following catastrophic hurricanes and tornadoes. He has investigated, and is familiar with, all commonly used low-slope and steep-slope roofing systems. Mr. Johnston has designed structural components and systems comprised of aluminum, brick masonry, cold-formed steel, concrete (conventionally-reinforced, post-tensioned, precast/prestressed, and tilt-up), concrete masonry, structural steel, and wood/timber, as well as metal building systems. He has designed structural components and systems for aviation, educational, healthcare, heavy industrial, manufacturing, military, office, parking, and water/wastewater treatment facilities.
