About Jason Houser

I am the chief US IP Counsel and first US in-house IP counsel for dormakaba Group. I am involved in various corporate intellectual property strategic management activities at dormakaba. My responsibilities include managing a sizable patent and trademark portfolio, conducting due diligence activities, leading freedom-to-operate projects, managing outside counsel in various aspects of IP matters, and investigating and enforcing IP infringement matters. My primary focus at dormakaba is strategic IP portfolio management and educating the business on understanding the importance and value of intellectual property as a driver of economic growth. I am a member of the Indiana bar and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. I am an Executive Committee Member and Bencher of the S. Jay Plager (Indianapolis) Intellectual Property American Inn of Court. I am also a former Vice Chair of the Corporate IP Management Committee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) and a co-author of the Committee’s 2013 white paper entitled “Intellectual Property Valuation.” My presentations include a 2022 Indianapolis IP Inn of Court panel on Changes at the Federal Circuit and PTO, a 2020 Indianapolis IP Inn of Court panel on Ethical Considerations in Life Sciences IP and Related Areas, a 2020 Indianapolis Bar Association panel on 2019 Patent Law Year in Review, a 2018 Indianapolis IP Inn of Court panel on Comparing ITC Actions with District Court Patent Litigation, a 2018 ACC Corporate Counsel roundtable panel, a 2017 IP Corporate Counsel panel for the Indianapolis Bar Association, an IP Valuation panel at the 2014 IPO Annual Meeting in Vancouver, and an IP Valuation panel at the 2014 Georgia State University Corporate IP Institute in Atlanta.
