As the Forest Service lead for tribal outreach, I am dedicated to fostering partnerships and promoting a deeper understanding of the collaborative mission between the United States Forest Service (USFS), affiliated tribes, and other stakeholders. My role involves close collaboration with the Superintendent and line officers to design and implement a robust tribal relations program for the Pike-San Isabel National Forests and the Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands, aligning with the Superintendent\'s government-to-government responsibilities.I actively solicit tribal recommendations in alignment with forest legislation and cooperative agreements, creating pathways for tribal, state, and local engagement in support of our mission. My responsibilities also include coordinating and leading tribal consultation meetings. In addition, I support the National Historic Preservation Act (Section 106) efforts and serve as a liaison between tribes and resource management and planning programs. As the lead for an interdisciplinary team, I oversee the completion of Environmental Assessments that support tribal plant gathering agreements and facilitate communication between tribes and the park during this process.I manage compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), ensuring consultation with tribes regarding potential needs for maintenance and resource projects, as well as addressing any inadvertent discoveries of ancestral remains and associated cultural items. Furthermore, I serve as the District historian, conducting archival research and presenting on Indigenous and environmental history within the Forest Service. For my efforts, I was awarded Employee of the Quarter at Pike-San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands in Fall 2024.
