About Jason Coker
Jason is a religious and nonprofit leader who has served churches in Mississippi, Texas and Connecticut. During that time, he completed a BA in Religion from William Carey College, a MAR in Biblical Studies from Yale University Divinity School, and a MPhil & PhD in New Testament and Early Christianity from Drew University. Jason founded an award winning non-profit-Delta Hands for Hope-in his hometown of Shaw, Mississippi, in 2013 to empower children and youth in the areas of education, recreation, health, and spiritual development. His social entrepreneurship also compelled him to create Civil Rides, an annual bicycle ride that follows historic Civil Rights sites to raise money and awareness for rural poverty in America. Jason has authored dozens of academic and popular articles as well as three books: James in Postcolonal Perspective: The Letter as Nativist Discourse (Fortress, 2015), Faded Flowers: Preaching in the Aftermath of Suicide (Smyth & Helwys, 2020), and Bible and Theory: Essays in Biblical Interpretation in Honor of Stephen D. Moore (co-edited with Scott S. Elliott; Fortress Academic, 2020).
