About Jason Burke Murphy
I have three main research projects. I seek to continue teaching and conduct research on the \"Meaning of Life\". I also want to keep applying philosophy to consider the experience of fans of popular culture and sport. Finally, I keep up with the ethical/political debate surrounding a Basic Income Guarantee.I serve on the US Basic Income Guarantee Network Committee, which promotes academic and other public discussion of basic income policies. I also serve on the Executive Committee of the Basic Income Earth Network. My medical ethics courses include general ethical theory alongside questions about the right understanding of health as well as debates over professional codes of ethics. I have served on my school\'s Institutional Review Board. My Introduction to Philosophy courses combines a survey of important philosophical historical figures and contemporary positions, mostly drawing from personal identity and philosophy of mind. My Ethics surveys the main ethical theoretical approaches, applies them to a few issues and then includes some core political philosophical ideas. Issues have include economic inequality, vaccine mandates, and automation. All of my classes now include an introductory presentation of anti-racism and anti-sexism alongside the latest data about resource imbalances along these lines. Areas of Specialization: Political Philosophy, Ethics, Feminism, Contemporary German Philosophy, Philosophy of Sport.
