About Jasmin Melara
As the Carbon Accounting Manager on Hershey’s Sustainability Team, I bring over six years of experience in carbon accounting, decarbonization strategies, and climate change initiatives across sectors such as energy and utilities, manufacturing, telecommunications, apparel, and healthcare. I have advised clients on emissions accounting, forecasting, and reduction strategies, delivering impactful solutions that drive the transition to a low-carbon economy while incorporating environmental justice and just transition principles.I hold a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Virginia, where I modeled bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) using life cycle assessment, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Georgia, which informs my perspective on the interplay between natural and engineered systems. I have developed expertise in data analysis, stakeholder engagement, greenhouse gas inventory calculations, and life cycle assessment. Additionally, I am a LEED Green Associate, showcasing my broader commitment to sustainability within the built environment. At Hershey, I lead the company\'s emissions inventory processes, support our journey towards ambitious science-based target reduction goals, optimize carbon accounting methodologies, and drive continuous improvement and automation in emissions accounting. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, snorkeling, and exploring unique coffee experiences, which fuel my dedication to environmental sustainability and creative problem-solving.
