ABOUT JASMINE ORTIZ SMALL
Civil Servant (UK Government). Considerable experience as a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote Sensing analyst. Also experienced in Machine Learning, geospatial data science, data analysis, data visualisation, conservation biogeography, sustainability, hydrology, microclimate, and mangrove studies.(1) Currently supporting Forestry England in managing the storage and accessibility of ecological GIS data for the South England District, acting as the main source of GIS expertise and supporting teams with the development and management of spatial data. I\'m supporting the Planning and Environment Team in creating forest management plans to support the District to design resilient woodlands taking into account key issues such as climate change, and different ways that people will want to use our forests in the future.(2) Currently supporting Arizona State University (ASU) with International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in using GIS to identify endemic species for Sonoran Desert Plants, and to create species richness maps for marine species, per deliverables on our IUCN (The International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List project.(3) Previously supported the Strategic Research Team at Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) in building, validating, analysing and visualising our datasets, with a strong focus on spatial data projects (GIS). Also supported the Fisheries Team at MSC in collecting information on fisheries with inseparable or practicably inseparable (IPI) stocks.An alumnus of King\'s College London, University of St Andrews and University of Portsmouth.Graduated in MSc Environmental Science for Sustainability with a strong Merit at King’s College London.Graduated in BSc (Hons) Geography with a strong Upper Second Class Honours at the University of Portsmouth. Obtained high marks in Conservation Biogeography (84%), and Fieldwork and Professional Skills (70%).Former student members of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEM), and Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
